A robust approach to high-speed navigation for unrehearsed desert terrain
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article presents a robust approach to navigating at high speed across desert terrain. A central theme of this approach is the combination of simple ideas and components to build a capable and robust system. A pair of robots were developed, which completed a 212 km Grand Challenge desert race in approximately 7 h. A pathcentric navigation system uses a combination of LIDAR and RADAR based perception sensors to traverse trails and avoid obstacles at speeds up to 15 m/s. The onboard navigation system leverages a • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Practical Evaluation of EKF1 and UKF2 Filters for Terrain Aided Navigation
This article would study batch and recursive methods that used in terrain navigation systems. Terrain navigation has a lot ofdisadvantages and so researchers have been studied on different method of aided navigation for many years. Therefore, more types of aided navigation systems were introduced with advantages and disadvantages in terms of practical and theoretical. One of the main ideas for ...
متن کاملSystem Architectures and Environment Modeling for High - Speed Autonomous Navigation
Successful high-speed autonomous navigation requires integration of tools from robotics, control theory, computer vision, and systems engineering. This thesis presents work that develops and combines these tools in the context of navigating desert terrain. A comparative analysis of reactive, behavior-based, hybrid, and deliberative control architectures provides important guidelines for design ...
متن کاملOnline Speed Adaptation Using Supervised Learning for High-Speed, Off-Road Autonomous Driving
The mobile robotics community has traditionally addressed motion planning and navigation in terms of steering decisions. However, selecting the best speed is also important – beyond its relationship to stopping distance and lateral maneuverability. Consider a high-speed (35 mph) autonomous vehicle driving off-road through challenging desert terrain. The vehicle should drive slowly on terrain th...
متن کاملTerrain Roughness Identification for High-Speed UGVs
High-speed navigation of autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) in rough unknown terrains requires the detection and identification of the terrain in order to make effective navigation decisions. This paper investigates a geometrical approach to identifying terrain based on its roughness using the terrain elevations from a point cloud generated using a 3D camera. This roughness, called the ...
متن کاملTerrain Classification for Traversability Analysis for Autonomous Robot Navigation in Unknown Natural Terrain
Autonomous robot navigation in unknown natural terrain is the key requirement of a robotic system such as a rover as the natural terrain is unpredictable. For safe and robust navigation a robot must possess onboard intelligence to perceive the terrain ahead so that it can avoid hazardous areas by discriminating the navigable regions for traversal thereby optimizing its speed and increasing its ...
